Today was our first real day in a city and we hit it hard like a red-headed stepchild. We started off getting into Chi. town a little late due to maritime traffic (don't you just hate that) so we got in and headed to our hostel via rocket cab. After we skidded to a halt we got to our hostel, put our bags in lockers and hit the town. If you're wondering about the title for today, I am not trying to be vulgar, that was what our waiter Esteban said people in Chicagosay to each other. And by people I mean gays. Here's the rest of the story:
Started off good, Train was 30 min early arriving. So we headed towards the mall for our Capital excursion. All was still well, we went up the Old Post Office Bell tower, walk all around the mall. Then, we decided, hey let's go see the White House, only problem was an Army of Motorcycles stood in the way! 50,000 Motorcycle! well maybe not, thirty minutes passed we found a break and took it. Then we get to the Amtrak station, and there was a fire inside. So we were stuck out side of the Amtrak station, couldn't get in. No worries though, we made our train on time. Ta ta for now. -John

We began our journey on an 18-hour train ride from Birmingham, AL to Washington, DC.
The trains are actually very comfortable. The chairs recline and there is plenty of legroom. They even give us pillows. We are free to move around the train and go to the lounge car or dinning car. The lounge car has a snack bar and tables to sit at.
We went to the dinning car for dinner and had delicious crawfish et tu fay. It only cost us about $20..... We'll be dinning in the lounge car from now on.
This is the first post of our Blog. It's two days before we actually step foot on a train. We'll be starting off in Birmingham, Alabama traveling to Washinton D.C., Chicago, West Glacier, MT, Seattle, Los Angeles, Houston, New Orleans, and of course ending in Birmingham, Alabama. This truly will be a trip around the country; roughly 6,000 miles in distance. Until next time, John
